From the Pastor

My pastor/friend Sam Boyd recently shared an article with his church that I wanted to pass along to you. In light of what we have been talking about on Sundays in January, I found his words to be very instructive and reminded me of questions we should ask ourselves that we might be fully devoted followers of Christ. Use these questions in a time of prayer and devotional.

In 2004, Nancy DeMoss, Christian writer and speaker, offered the following self-evaluation at a conference at The Cove in Asheville, NC.

Am I...

1. Losing the Wonder?
  · Do I have a genuine passion for Christ and for ministry?
  · Have I lost the wonder of my relationship with Jesus?
  · Am I just going through the motions?

2. Neglecting my relationship with Christ?
  · Do I have a vital, growing, intimate love relationship with the Lord Jesus?
  · Am I cultivating God's presence through daily time in the Word and prayer?

3. Proclaiming truth I'm not living?
  · Is there any issue God has revealed to me in His Word I'm not obeying?
  · Is my present lifestyle consistent with what I proclaim to others?
  · Can I say to others, "Live as I do?"

4. Relying on the natural?
  · How does my life evidence dependence on the power of the Holy Spirit?
  · What is there about my life that cannot be explained apart from the Spirit of God?

5. Leaving the pathway of humility?
  · Do I have a teachable spirit?
  · Do I have a servants' heart or do I expect others to serve me?
  · Do I esteem others as better than myself?
  · Am I amazed that God would use me?

6. Settling for the status quo?
  · Am I exercising faith in God's power?
  · Am I seeking God for fresh vision and opportunities to glorify Him?
  · What am I believing God for that only He can do?

7. Serving without love?
  · Is my service motivated by genuine love for God?
  · Do I genuinely love others?

8. Losing perspective?
  · Does my life demonstrate a connection that God is powerful and in charge?
  · Do I act as if I believe He is big enough to solve every problem I face?

9. Seeking comfort and convenience?
  · Am I self-seeking or self-denying?
  · Am I surrendering my "right" to comfort and convenience?

God has been doing a great work in people's lives over these past few weeks. It has been a time of refreshing and deeper commitment. I hope these questions take you deeper in your walk and your commitment to the Lord.

I look forward to seeing you Sunday. God has clearly placed a message on my heart for you to hear. Come prayed up and ready to hear God speak to your heart.

The Best is yet to come!
